It’s no secret that I am a pretty big music fan and every year I look forward to this end of the year mash up of the years top songs done by DJ Earworm. I love getting to hear all my favorite songs from the year magically smashed into one. Per my year end wrap up tradition, here’s his 2013 mix:
This year was a pretty great year for the blog. I made lots of fun new recipes and started an exciting new endeavor with Ari – Drink & Dish. I’ve had quite a few recipes get some love on Pinterest and apparently people like their cocktails. They have kind of taken over the site for 2014, which is a weird concept since I don’t really drink all that often haha. So for my top 13 recipes of 2013 I’ve decided to level the field a little and give you the 5 most popular drink recipes, 5 most popular non-drinks, then my 3 favorites of the year.
Top 5 Drink Recipes of 2013
So this one surprised me a little and it probably shouldn’t have. I mean, it’s a slush made out of booze. Sonic meets adulthood with summer written all over it. You guys know where its at.
Tequila goes so well with spicy food so I thought it would be fun to bring the spicy into the tequila. This infusion only takes a couple days and makes outrageous margaritas.
Margaritas are one of my favorite cocktails, but it so rare to get a good one when you’re out – they are normally loaded with that neon colored sour mix (ick). These skinny margaritas use fresh lime juice and agave to make them taste better without all the extra calories.
It turns out, you guys like sangria as much as I do. This one is bright, citrusy and perfect for spring and summer.
This is the drink that changed my mind about whiskey. I think it’s the combination of whiskey and honey that makes this one so good.
Top 5 Food/Dessert Recipes of 2013
I had my first praline in New Orleans and was in love. It’s no surprise that this was my number 1 recipe this year. Homemade candy making can be challenging sometimes, but these guys are worth the effort (and the elbow grease for the stirring process!)
I made these brownies for my very first book club meeting last year and they were a huge hit. The frosting alone is crazy good.
I was so glad to see that this dip made the list! It has all my favorite components of a loaded baked potato jammed into a perfect party dip. It’s completely addicting.
Funfetti is amazing. Well anything with sprinkles and that’s flavored like cake is a winner in my book. The best part about this ice cream is that it doesn’t use any cake mix to make it taste like cake!
Homemade marshmallows are a guilty pleasure of mine. Normally I can pass up a store bought marshmallow, but I can’t say no to a homemade one. I used a little bit of champagne in these guys and tinted them pink for fun.
My 3 Favorite Recipes of 2013
This is the one recipe that I think didn’t get as much love as it deserved. I mean, it’s bacon flavored bourbon. It’s has all the smokiness and flavor of bacon, but none of the greasy fat. In less than 24 hours you can make some magic happen with a bottle of bourbon and a few slices of bacon.
We eat a lot of pizza in this house. This one was our favorite flavor combination of the year. The easy peanut sauce is probably my favorite part.
When Ari and I were training for our marathon we spent far too much time discussing what we wanted to make as our celebration dessert. These brownies were my choice. Chocolate brownie batter + 3 kinds of chopped chocolate. Now you can see why it was my post marathon pick.
