Loving: Reflecting on 2013. I had a really amazing 2013 filled with so much adventure and joy. We visited 5 countries (on 3 different continents), flew over 32,000 miles, took road trips on a whim, ate lots of pizza, celebrated friends weddings and new babies, and just had an all around happy year for Lance and I.
I somehow got over my issues with Photoshop and made us a Christmas card to send out. It took me waay too many hours (I refuse to admit how long it actually took..), but I was happy with the end result:
Reading: I did a little less reading in December due to the holidays. I started the month with Clockwork Princess (#3 of the Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare). OMG I have not cried so hard during and after a book in a long, long time. Most of the end had me all hyped up and teary, then I started the epilogue. I was like 10 pages away from finishing it when we met up with friends, so I brought it with me to finish. They all looked at me like I was nuts (you know, that whole “you’re crying about a book” look?). That epilogue made the entire series for me – I cried because I was happy and sad at the same time, it was strange. So many trilogy’s I’ve read lately have had the most disappointing endings, but not this one! I was so happy with the ending – it was amazing. If you’ve read the Infernal Devices series, what did you think??
Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry was next – it was the first book in the series (I read the second book, Dare You To a couple months ago). This was the perfect book to read after my William/Jem – Clockwork Princess hangover. It was intense at times but entertaining. Now I can’t wait to read the 3rd book of the series
Our December book club book was Let’s Pretend This Never Happened: A Mostly True Memoir by Jenny Lawson (aka The Bloggess). This book was hilarious through and through. I can see how some people might find topics in it offensive, but I enjoyed the whole thing. I would read it at night before bed and would end up laughing so loud I would wake Lance up (oops!) – my favorite chapter was “The Psychopath on the Other Side of the Bathroom Door” it had me almost in tears from laughing.
Sheena put The Name of the Star by Maureen Johnson on our RBTW Book Club choices for January, we didn’t end up picking it, but I was quite intrigued and decided to read it anyways (and it was conveniently available from the library, so that helped a little). Overall I liked the way the Jack the Ripper mystery tied into the story but I was a tad disappointed by the lack of romance (shocking, I know..). I didn’t realize it was a series at first, but I think I’ll probably end up reading the second one as well.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green was on my to-read list for quite a while and I finally got around to picking it up. I can definitely see what the hype was all about. It sort of swept me up into it and pulled at my heart strings. Yes, it was a little sad. But you know what? The characters were wonderful, the romance was epic and that made it all worth it.
Watching: There hasn’t been much of anything on TV lately (although the new Big Bang Theory last Thursday was pretty good). I’m really excited for both Girls and Shameless to start back up this Sunday. I’m ready for my Sunday’s to be filled with so much hilarious dysfunctionality.
I also saw American Hustle this weekend. You guys, I was underwhelmed. Everyone is going on and on about how amazing this movie was and I thought it was pretty good, but nothing compared to what I heard about it. I probably shouldn’t admit this, but think I may have enjoyed Frozen more than American Hustle..
Anticipating: A visit from my wonderful blog friend Katie (from Peace Love & Oats)!! She is coming to Arizona in 2 weeks to come hang out and run the Arizona Rock and Roll Half Marathon with Ari & I. If it’s anything like HLS, I know it will be a blast! #2208 roomies together again.
Listening to: After a slew of Christmas music during December, I had to have a break from it. I wasn’t feeling any of my usual tunes so I turned to Pandora. I have somehow gotten sucked into this Emo Radio station. It sounds awful, but I promise it’s not. Fall Out Boy, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, My Chemical Romance. Yeah it’s pretty sweet.
Planning: Our annual Chinese New Year dinner! Last year things were too crazy with work so I didn’t get to host it (here’s my post about our 2012 party). But this year I’m bringing it back (it’ll be year 5!). It’s been way too long since I’ve thrown a dinner party so I‘m excited to do one again.
Working on: Cleaning and reorganizing my pantry. Whoa is this a challenge…it’s waay overdue! I found a crazy amount of tea hiding in there. However according to Instagram no one things this is alarming at all, in fact I’d say it’s normal. I’m glad I keep company with other tea lovers.
Wishing: For a little snow up north in AZ so we can get in at least one ski trip before the summer heat rolls in..
Sipping on: I spent most of December drinking mug after mug of my favorite peppermint tea. Is it bad that I am still not sick of it?
