Well guys, all the football chatter has started again– everyone’s is hosting their fantasy football drafts and getting pumped up about their teams. Are you in or out with the whole football season thing?
Me? I don’t have strong feeling for or against it. Last year I had a fantasy football team…I’m not going to lie, it wasn’t my favorite. Luckily there was an app on my phone for it, but around halfway through the season I sort of forgot about – I think I was distracted by all the fun fall recipes to create/make on weekends.
What I do like about football season is the beer, drinks and snacks. And the socializing. Please don’t judge me..
Tailgating though, that is something I can get behind. Hanging outside – grilling, snacking & drinking while playing a few yard games. Back when I was in college we tailgated at one of the ASU football games (Go Sun Devils!). The whole thing was lots of fun – I would definitely do it again!
In honor of football season and tailgating fun, Ari and I created a special Drink & Dish episode with some fun game day inspired recipes. Ari makes some Jalapeno Popper Hot Dogs – these hot dogs are wrapped in bacon (yes!) then smothered in jalapeno cream cheese (double yes!). I whipped up a batch of my Game Day Beer Punch.
This punch is really easy to make either ahead of time – or at a tailgate. A few simple juices, a little rum, a few bottles of beer and voilà! A crowd pleasing punch that’s slightly sweet and fruity, but still has that robust flavor from the beer.
I like to use a red beer, such as Killian’s Irish Red (I happen to really like the flavor this one adds to the punch) – but there’s lots of flexibility here. You can always swap out your favorite beer and mix it right in.
- 3 cups orange juice
- 3 cups lemonade
- 3 cups cranberry-raspberry juice
- 1 cup rum
- 6 bottles of full bodied beer (I use Killian's Irish Red)
- Ice for serving
- In a large pitcher or drink dispenser combine all three juices, rum and beer. Stir gently to combine. Chill until cold and/or serve over ice.
