After our long day/night spent at Universal Studios for Halloween Horror Nights we decided to spend a morning in Hollywood before making the drive back home. Of all the times I been to California (and that’s a bunch!) I have yet to check out Hollywood – I was ready to do all the usual tourist destinations
Our first stop of the morning was to see the Hollywood sign.
Out viewpoint of choice was at the Hollywood & Highland Center
A huge tour group must have made a stop there about 5 minutes after we got there cuz there were like 30 people all trying to take pictures of the sign from the same tiny spot. It didn’t take long for us to get outta there quick!
Next up was Gruaman’s Chinese Theatre just a few steps down Hollywood Boulevard
This is where lots of Hollywood movie premiers are held, as well as the Academy Awards.
And of course the concrete squares in the courtyard that feature the handprints, footprints and signatures of various move stars.
We spent some time browsing and checking out the spots for a few of our favorite stars. Frank Sinatra was a must for me
Lance with Adam Sandler, Scott with John Wayne, Ross with Samuel L Jackson – and Clack Gable’s square!
Sarah with Frank Sinatra, Crystal with Harry Potter and me with Marilyn Monroe (it said “Prefer Blonds” so I had to pose ) – and Julie Andrew’s square
Matt Damon has some big feet!
Next up – the Hollywood Walk of Fame!
Stars galore! We strolled along the sidewalk checking out all of the stars
Then we went in search of Audrey Hepburn’s star for Sarah. About a mile away, but we found it! Yay!
While we were walking out and about, us ladies spotted this: Disney’s Soda Fountain and Studio Store
It was the perfect spot for us to enjoy lunch – and dessert
I love the idea of the old fashioned soda fountain – so I was excited to get to try one of the phosphates. Vanilla was my flavor of choice
For lunch I went with a simple grilled cheese
And dessert – a sundae of course! I went with a scoop of cookies & cream, caramel, a scoop of vanilla, fudge, Mickey Mouse sprinkles, crushed waffle cone, whipped cream and a cherry. It was intense, but obvi very delicious
Turned out to be a pretty good lunch spot
Even though we only spent a couple hours checking out the Hollywood area, we were able to see a ton of the popular touristy destinations – and all for free. It’s lots of fun but be ready for lots of crowds on weekends.
