We started the day off bright and early with the New Orleans Rock n’ Roll Half Marathon (read my recap of the race here!).
After the race we were ready for lunch – and a hurricane was on the agenda as well.
After a bit of wandering in the French Quarter we decided on having lunch at Pat O’Briens. They have a really beautiful courtyard with lots of outdoor seating and a fountain in the center. It has a lot of charm!
Chelle and I started lunch off right with a hurricane (best post race drink ever..).
I ended up ordering the New Orleans trio with jambalaya, red beans and rice, and crawfish Etouffée
Chelle got the shrimp creole
Lance got a shrimp pasta.
After lunch we headed back to the hotel for showers and a nap. I was pretty exhausted after the run so it was nice to have some time to relax!
While we were walking down Royal Street we saw a wedding party pass through the street dancing to some music – it was really cool! I took a little video too :)
I can’t remember the name of the restaurant we had dinner at – and I left my camera in the hotel room (oops!). But we hurried through dinner so that we could meet up with Chelle’s friend that recently moved to NOLA.
My one request for the trip was to spend some time on one of Bourbon Street’s iconic balconies – so this is where we spent a good portion of the night.
As soon as I realized that I could throw beads off the balcony I was hooked! That $5 bag of beads was the best thing ever – I was entertained for at least an hour. Since it was a Sunday night, Bourbon street was a little quiet, thus not many people looking for beads. If someone waved or said hi back to me I happily threw them some beads (I am pretty sure all the guys on the balcony were very happy when I left haha). I was having a good ol’ time and didn’t realize that I had leaned so much on the railing that I ended up with a bruise on my ribs! How funny is that?
We made friends with some locals on the balcony and moved over to another place with a bit more music. We spent a little while dancing and celebrating with our new friends before calling it a night!
More about days 3 & 4 later this week!
