New Orleans was lots of fun and I’ve got tons of pictures, stories and delicious eats to share from our trip!
We flew out of Phoenix early Saturday morning and had a layover in Dallas before headed to Louisiana. On one of our flights Lance ordered a Sprite that he claimed tasted weird. I was skeptical, but I of course tasted it, then took a look at the can…the whole thing was in another language. We inspected the can to find out where exactly it was from. The verdict was Brazil! It was really random, but funny! Other than that it the flights were pretty uneventful.
It turned out that our hotel in the French Quarter was under construction while we were staying there so we had to walk through weird areas and whatnot. Lance got a kick out of it and was constantly peeking into the working areas and commenting on how they did things – I will admit that he was right about the painting…they were painting the outside of the building in the courtyard with paint brushes and rollers..spraying it would have definitely been faster!
But the hotel was in a great location and I’m sure it will be gorgeous when it’s done! So if you go to New Orleans some time after this summer I ‘d recommend the Wyndham Chateau Bourbon, you cant get better than the corner of Canal Street and Bourbon :)
After we checked in we headed over to the race expo! We didn’t have much time to walk around and check out all the vendors since the expo closed at 5 so we rushed in and to get our stuff. My only complaint about the expo was that they completely ran out of some sizes of their women’s race shirts (large/extra large) so Chelle had to get a regular fit one or wait a few weeks to have one mailed to her. She opted for the unisex shirt so we could wear them around after the race :)
Dinner was the next order of business – we wandered around a bit before we decided on burgers. Now I have to tell you about this burger place: When Lance and I came to New Orleans for our honeymoon, the lady next to me on the plane made me a little list of the best places to eat in the French Quarter and Port of Call was on the list. She said they have the best burgers and we had to eat there. Not only did we eat there, but we went back a second time before we went home!
On our second trip to New Orleans we went back (of course) and while we were waiting for our table we noticed that Pauly D from Jersey Shore was eating there (this was while the first season was airing). After he was done eating Camille and I bugged him for a photo.
It’s a tiny place so we had to wait about 45 minutes for a table, but it was so worth it! I never eat beef – but man this burger was so good (and drenched in cheese!) and every bit as delicious as I remembered.
We walked back to the hotel along Bourbon street, and made a pit stop for Chelle and Lance to get a hand grenade. We called it an early night so we could be up bright eyed and bushy tailed for the race in the morning.
Stay tuned this week and next for more about my trip – and you can check out my race recap here.
